INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

  1. Ensure that the top of the load-bearing wall is leveled and brick / block frogs are filled and floated with strong cement mortar.
  2. Two layers PVC DPC are to be laid on all horizontal brickwork / concrete interfaces before erecting the ribs.
  3. Lay the Precast concrete ribs, which should be supported on opposite walls or beams (un-propped), in accordance with the installation plan provided.  Each beam is marked with a ticket giving the beams' job no.; mark (A, B, C, D etc), length and steel content.  Ensure that ribs have a bearing of at least 85mm on load bearing brickwork.
  4. Place both extreme end blocks between ribs to obtain the correct Precast rib spacing.
  5. Erect temporary propping lines as specified on the engineer's drawings provided, or not exceeding 1,5m apart and individual props at not more than 1,5m centres along the lines (See typical propping details below), before laying of further blocks.
  6. Prop ribs to achieve an upward camber of span / 500 at mid-span.
  7. Complete the laying of the blocks, making allowance for the stiffner ribs if indicated by the engineer. (See example below).  Ensure that traffic walking on top of the laid system do so carefully, preferably by using scaffold planks and placing their weight on the center of the blocks.  Hollow blocks are not structural components.
  8. Place any additional reinforcement in position (eg. Straight steel in stiffner rib).
  9. Place any electrical conduit or water / waste piping.
  10. Place 10mm polystyrene or soft board at all vertical brickwork / concrete interfaces.
  11. Place mesh 15mm below the surface of the finished in-situ topping with 200mm laps.
  12. Pour the in-situ concrete topping (25 Mpa at 28 days) after watering down the complete system.  Ensure the even spread of concrete and do not heap the mix in one position on the deck.
  13. Strip the temporary support when advised by the engineer. (Normally 14 days after pouring)
